Idea: make the 12k stretch goal (for us), You revealing the IDEA for your next comic 😅

And a question I’d love to hear you elaborate on in a future post, if you had to lay it out in 3-5steps how do you go from making your own comics solo (in most people’s cases with art that is a bit lacking) to hiring out artists??

Side question, how to sell a comic when you KNOW your art isn’t nearly as good as other stuff around?

That's such a good idea for a goal! Definitely going to do this :P

How to hire an artist?

Step 1: Know your page-rate budget and how much you can afford. Can you find an artist that can do pencils, inks, and colors? Or can you afford someone that can do line art and YOU can color the book yourself, or have no color. For me, I've always just paid for line art, and if I needed a book colored I would do it myself.

Step 2: Know what style you are looking for for this book. You don't want to hire a musician who plays the trumpet when the song was meant for a piano

Step 3: Find an artist. Go on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to find artists. There is a group on Facebook called "Connecting Comic Book Writers and Artists" which is where I've found 80% of the people I've worked with. On Instagram, if your budget it tight, try and find artists with low follower accounts. These people will be just like you, trying to get in the game and needing a path.

Step 4: Make sure the artist you work with uses a payment system that you can use like Paypal, Venmo, Zelle, etc. Never pay them the full amount at first unless you have a great relationship. Maybe start with 3-page batches where you pay them upfront for 3-pages, and then when they deliver, you pay for the next 3-pages.

Step 5: Have clear communication. Artists HATE having to redraw things. So if you don't give them clear directions in your script, then that's on you. Make sure everything is precise.

Hopefully this helps :)
