[FINAL HOURS] My Sexy Witch Academia #1-2 Is Ending on Kickstarter!
The manga debacle that I'm experiencing and going to try to be the solution for...
Hey peeps! So early this week I was in Arizona at a Barnes and Noble and I realized that there was a problem with MANGA and wanted to talk about it and get your thoughts. But before I do!
MY SEXY WITCH ACADEMIA #1-2 is in it’s FINAL HOURS on Kickstarter! It ends tonight! If this is a series that you want to get into, now is a great time to do so!

Okay! Let’s get into it!
THE PROBLEM WITH MANGA…
Okay. I’m just going to skip the monologue and get straight to the point.
The problem that I have with manga right now is that everything is in a SERIES! Like, seriously! Go to your local Barnes and Noble and all you’ll see in the shelves and shelves of manga are series. And yes, while that’s great that are a ton of potential series to get into, what if I don’t want to lock myself into one? Like…what happens if I read volume 1 and God forbid I enjoy it?
Now I’m committed to this series! What if it’s freaking One Piece and I’m committed for the next several years on a singular story!!?
Why are there not as many manga that are just ONE-SHOT stories? Get in and get out!
I WANT TO EAT YOUR PANCREAS is a great example. It’s a 260-page story that gets you in and gets you out. get to feel and understand these characters, you get a great story, and it gets to the point. I love it!
Sometimes you just don’t want to be reading for years and years for some of these stories.
So…it got me thinking. I need to start doing more ONE-SHOT stories! Get in and get out! And this is all thanks to a conversation I had with my friend Travis Gibb (Orange Cone Productions).
So that’s my plan. Luckily SUPER PLUMBER SISTERS and BULLET ASSASSIN LIVING IN A FANTASY WORLD are both one-and-done stories that range from 160-200 pages.
I have some other stories in the works after the completion of those, that will start being anywhere from 80-120 pages.
Get in. Get out.
On the contrary to this plan, I’ll have MY SEXY WITCH ACADEMIA running for three volumes, and THE GIRL WITH THE MEGA FISTS is an ongoing series with over 10+ volumes planned.
Okay. Thanks for listening to my rant.
I did end up picking up two one-and-done stories. THE FADE OUT by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips (my favorite crime noir creators) and DO YOU LIKE THE NERDY NURSE by Araka Kawabata (yes…it’s gonna be weird leave me alone).

It's true! Whenever I see a manga that catches my interest, the first thing I do is see how many volumes it is. If it's under 10 volumes, I'll consider it. If it's over 10 I'll wait on it to see if it really holds my interest enough to invest in the first volume. And if it's both under 10 volumes AND complete, I'm buying the whole thing in one shot. Honestly, I hate this system. And if it's even worse if it's American comics. This is why I prefer waiting for trades. At least a creator should prove to me they can at least get ONE trade out!
All I heard was MORE STORIES, and I’m here for it! Good luck Tyler!
