It's true! Whenever I see a manga that catches my interest, the first thing I do is see how many volumes it is. If it's under 10 volumes, I'll consider it. If it's over 10 I'll wait on it to see if it really holds my interest enough to invest in the first volume. And if it's both under 10 volumes AND complete, I'm buying the whole thing in one shot. Honestly, I hate this system. And if it's even worse if it's American comics. This is why I prefer waiting for trades. At least a creator should prove to me they can at least get ONE trade out!

All I heard was MORE STORIES, and I’m here for it! Good luck Tyler!

The same thing is going on with fantasy novels.

I just saw an argument on Threads where authors were complaining that if people wait for their series to complete before buying volume 1, they don't have an incentive to finish the series. Well, THAT'LL certainly take away MY incentive to buy the first volume!

Their thinky goo appears to be malfunctioning. On the other hand, my friend John C. Wright is finishing a 12-volume take on Star Wars (if a competent writer had done the prequels & sequels) and won't be releasing it until it's complete so as to avoid that problem.
